Event Details:

Please join us for the Band on the Run 5K, an annual run / walk race that will benefit the Charlottesville High School Band and the Charlottesville High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams. We welcome runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to this family friendly event.

The Band on the Run 5K will benefit Charlottesville High School students in two important school organizations, the CHS XC team and the CHS Band.

The CHS XC team aims to develop within its runners the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and work ethic that are necessary to reach both individual and team running goals. CHS XC provides a rich team environment in which its members are able to develop positive character traits such as discipline, respect, loyalty, leadership, integrity and sportsmanship. CHS XC also provides its runners meaningful connections to their school and community and a foundation for life-long fitness. Funds raised through the Band on the Run 5K will be used towards the purchase a new team race tent that will provide shelter from sun and rain during meets, to purchase new team warm-up suits, to supplement the team’s away race travel budget, and to purchase race timing equipment enabling the team to host larger meets.

The CHS Bands programs have a rich, storied history of awards and accomplishments stretching back 40 years. The Band program at Charlottesville High School provides a comprehensive musical experience for its students, with an emphasis on Concert, Solo and Chamber Ensemble performances. Ensembles include Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Marching Band, all of which perform throughout the year at various school and state competition events. The CHS Band also has a long history of supporting community events, performing at Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies in Charlottesville for many years. The CHS Band provides students with a quality music making experience, while instilling a life-long appreciation for music and the arts. Funds raised through the Band on the Run 5K will be used to educate Band students through the repair of old and purchase of new instruments, the purchase of musical scores, to supplement Band competition travel expenses, and to continue to provide a rich musical experience for CHS students who could not otherwise receive it.

The Band on the Run 5K will begin and end at the Curtis E. Elder Track at Charlottesville High School. The 3.1 mile course will take runners and walkers through the quiet tree-lined streets of the Foxbrook and Greenbrier residential neighborhoods. Much of the course is open to vehicles and course volunteers will assist with traffic control and directions at important intersections. Water will be available at a single to-be- determined location along the course.
